Questions...hopefully informative
How do I book a class?
It's easy, call or email and we will get right to work with a follow up email or call and happily answer any questions you may have.
Do we teach all year long?
We do, but it gets harder to get consistent weather in the winter so if all goes as planned we try and head south for the winter. We like to be back to teaching here late April, early May.
What do I need to bring with me?
We will provide your Official ASA Certification logbook, PFD "life-jacket", training materials, and the boat. We have room to store what you need and will not be gone from the dock for more than a few hours, so what you need to bring is minimal. Upon booking a class we will send you an email with a list of personal gear suggestions. You can of course email or call with any questions.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
We sail in the rain; we don't sail in thunderstorms. We monitor the weather closely, very closely, and if we think it will be unsafe we stay at the dock. We will be happy to share what we are looking at weather wise, especially in our 103 and 104 classes.
Why 3 day classes instead of 2?
A lot of the reason has to do with weather; we need 2 good days on the water to get all our skills done. Also, to try and get all our skills done and classroom and review and the test is just...Work ! 3 days is easier on all of us.
What if I have never sailed before?
No worries at all! That's what we are here for. Whether you have no experience or plenty of experience, there is plenty for you to get out of the class, and it will be fun!
What if I have more questions?
Please email or call us; we would be happy to "talk Sailing" with you. If you have a question, then chances are, others do as well and we may add it to this list!
Do I need any certificates or certifications before taking the first class?
How hard is sailing? Can I learn easily?
Quick answer: it's not hard and yes you can! Think of it this way, your ancestors could sail before they invented the fork! It's a basic human skill; you can do it! The ASA has developed a great system and has some wonderful study materials to help you along. The more you apply yourself , read the book, and have positive attitude, the easier it will be. We pride ourselves on having an easy going, fun class.
